Rotational Molding
The rotational molding process consists of four phases: loading the molds with plastic material, rotating and heating the mold to melt the plastic, cooling and solidifying the plastic, and demolding the part. In loading the molds, a predetermined amount of raw material is placed within the mold and the mold halves or sections are closed and locked. The mold is then rotated in two planes perpendicular to one another while being subjected to heat. As heat penetrates the mold, the powdered plastic is melted and coats the interior surface of the mold. After fusion is complete, the mold is cooled by water spray or air while it continues to rotate. Then the rotation is stopped and the molded part is removed.
