Injection Blow Molding

A method of forming hollow parts by inflating a heated plastic preform. This can be accomplished in a single stage or two-stage process. In a single stage process, the preform is first injection molded using a standard injection molding process. While still hot and in the same machine, the preform is moved to a secondary blow molding station where the preform is inflated inside of a closed mold causing the plastic to take the shape of the mold cavity. In a two stage process, the preform is injection molded and then stored. The preform is later reheated and blow molded in a separate machine. This process is used for high volume production of bottles and containers used for packaging.
